A MAGNIFICENT DOWNTOWN ADDITION The Edison, Los Angeles 1108 West 2nd Street, Los Angeles, CA 90012 (213) 784-3678 website A throwback to Hollywood's Golden Age, this underground haunt is without a doubt one of the coolest places in Los Angeles. (Sort of ironic, considering it used to be a boiler room.) Located near Harlem Place Alley--core of L.A.'s early 20th century music scene--the sprawling downtown space is old-school glam done up right. The 1910 Higgins Building's original structure remains intact, with many of the historic architectural elements still around. (Even the enormous central power generator is visible through a glass wall.) Think of it as a living, breathing museum where handcrafted cocktails flow, pretty people mingle, ceilings soar and the attitude remains squarely at the door. (Sometimes the bouncers can get a little uptight, but hey, this is downtown, after all.) Review Courtesy of Mar Yvette at Citysearch A quick note on their outstanding website. Without doubt, this has to be one of the better web designs for a venue we have seen in a while. Definitely worth checking out. http://www.edisondowntown.com

A NEW PRODUCT FROM APPLE WE LIKE Apple iPad Is it a lightweight laptop, a mobile graphic design tool, a competitor to kindle, an oversized iphone or all of these things? We are not quite sure what the iPad is supposed to be, but we are sure it isn't an oversized iphone. I like the sleek design, the lightweight feel of the product, the over 140,000 apps already available for it and of course the touchscreen. Over on Huffington Post, they have a page dedicated to 10 things you should know about the iPad, mostly a list of gripes from our POV. They mention that it lacks a camera, (as if one would normally take photos with a laptop), and some other minor nags. A real issue is the lack of flash compatibility when browsing. But I think one should instead focus on possibilities that this device presents. For one, I think it will become a hit in the Night life industry. I can easily see DJ's using the iPad instead of laptops at their gigs, I can also see how the functionality of the iPad would make promoters and grass roots marketing a little easier and fluid. There are literally hundreds of applications that this device would work well with in the Nightlyfe Industry. Read more about the launch from Mashable.com then finally venture over to Apple.com for their spin on things.
