THE TROUBLE WITH THE DOOR CROSSING THE LINE & COSTING THE CLUB

Over the past year we have encountered many stories about misery at the door. We have taken note that these situations are sometimes caused by the potential patrons, but the vast majority are down to lack of communication between management/promotion or downright silliness buy the folks employed to man the doors. I guess it can be seen as some sort of power trip in a way or a case of overzealously trying to maintain their mandate as to who they think the venue views as "suitable" to frequent their establishment.

Tops on that list, by a far margin, are those venerable locations in South Beach. With story after story emerging about uncompromising and more often than not, unwarranted misery at the door.

The most recent story that got our attention was posted on  cooljunkie.com and entitled disappointment at the door of SET for three and Sasha. In this story the victim explains that he was refused entry despite a personal invitation from the DJ playing that night for wearing an unacceptable shirt. Read the full story and you will quickly see that as a sad ploy to simply keep him out. In that same thread another maligned patron talks about going out with his wife and being refused entry for the same innocuous unacceptable clothing routine, with an absurd offer to let them in if they bough the club's t-shirt as opposed to his appropriate Golf shirt. These are just two of the endless stories we hear about Miami door troubles.

Of course other cities have their issues as well. Los Angeles comes in second in terms of dickishness at the door. Third in line is New York City, while Vegas came in a distant fourth. I suppose the sheer competition for patrons and the nature of the city makes it hard to refuse people en mass.

In 2009 and an ever tightening economy, we seriously hope many venues take a good long look at their door policy and/or the people they employ to man them. We also suggest sending your legitimate grievances to the club via email or posting comments on appropriate websites. such measures do get their attention, as well as providing you some small modicum of redemption.

We here at Nightlyfe would also like to hear your stories. So send them in.

1. We will read them on our daily show called Happy Hour on Nightlyfe TV

2. We will add selected stories in  a dedicated Nightlyfe Magazine section

3. We'll add post in Nightlyfe CITY

4. We just want to hear about them...its a good read
