A FEW OF THE BEST MEN'S DRINKS THE GIMLET

Usually when it comes to drinks, our reviews are focused on the merits (or in some cases the drawbacks) of a particular new brand or flavor. Especially in the oversaturated market of Vodka's out there. With so many brands, it's hard as a consumer to figure out what's what and in most cases are pretty much subject to what the bar has available. So instead, we'll focus on what drinks you should order up and leave it to you with what particular brand to infuse your drinks with.

This week we will focus on the timeless classic of the Gimlet. simple and yet fulfilling. Consistently ranked as the epitome of a man's drink, depicting discerning taste without being boorish, the Gimlet can either be served in a more fancy presentation, as shown with recent variations as to the accents, or in its traditional serving in a typical glass, which is more conducive in most bar settings. As seen below.

The Recipe:

-2 oz Gin
-½ oz Lime Juice
Shake in Cocktail shaker over crushed ice – strain and serve in a cocktail glass

OR

Shake well in a cocktail shaker and pour in double old fashioned glass filled with crushed or cracked ice. Let this sit for about 3-5 minutes, lightly stir it, and take the first drink appreciating the frost that’s built on the outside of the glass.

AN IRISH PUB BREAKING THE MOULD  FORAN'S IRISH PUB

1612 Woodward Ave, Detroit MI 48226  313-961-3043  www.foransirishpub.com

Foran’s Irish Pub is one of Southeast Michigan’s finest drinking establishments. Forans is located in the heart of downtown Detroit, one block from Campus Martius and Hart Plaza. Once a ticket office for the impressive Grand Trunk Railway, Foran's, now an Irish bar, capitalizes on that historic atmosphere. This old but beautiful two-story building with vaulted ceilings and a brick wall interior was built in 1879.

As citysearch notes:

Despite this Irish pub's classic wooden bar, tin ceiling and multiple television screens, a varied crowd turns up on most nights. With a focus on electronic and techno music on the upper-level stage, this is not your typical brooding pub scene. Corporate types stop by for a drink, but the hipsters stay. The wide variety of beers and the lunch menu of corned beef and shepherd's pie brings it all back home.

A steady diet of House music can be heard on the 2nd Floor seven days of the week and although they occasionally play some Irish music, this venue has attracted a a solid underground scene ticked away in the middle of downtown Detroit, juxtaposed in an Irish pub. Definitely worth a visit.
