KEEPING TABS ON THE BARTENDER AVOIDING SCAMS We recently came across a story that is sadly becoming an all to familiar complaint from patrons across the country. One, that we ourselves experienced at a nice new restaurant in Manhattan just a few weeks ago. It isn't widespread yet, but we've noticed growing complaints about the matter. Here is a perfect example of the complaint I went to Myst this past Saturday night. I only had one drink at the bar and spent $10 on my debit card. the next day I discovered that the club had charged $120 to my account. There is a posted sign above the bar warning that this amount will be charged to your account if you forget to close your tab and leave your card, however it was applied to my account despite the fact that I had closed my tab. Before even using my card I asked the bartender if this kind of charge would occur, and she reassured me it would not. It is an ok club, and this particular night they played really fun music. Just be aware that this bar, and many others in Scottsdale, such as Mulligan's, overcharge cards as a regular policy. from citysearch We know that times are a little tougher with the economy and all, but this practice of overcharging a card without establishing a tab, or in our case simply adding an additional $160 on our bill of $1240 ( thinking that we wouldn't notice) is simply not acceptable. We have also heard of a good number of cases where they simply added $10-$15 here or there on a bill and most of the patrons simple let it go. so our suggestion is to inspect your bill/tab carefully and make sure you are keeping tabs on your bartender. Its your money after all. Here is a great article on other scams and how to look out for them:
